Alexander McQueen Documentary is Coming to Dubai

An intimate look into the late designer’s life

In early 2010, the fashion world was shaken up by the announcement of Alexander McQueen’s unexpected death. Eight years later, the renowned British fashion designer’s legacy is celebrated through McQueen– an evocative feature-length documentary offering an intimate look inside his life and career.

The documentary has been screened all over the world over the last few months, and now McQueen fans in the UAE will finally get a chance to watch the acclaimed documentary.

Directed by award-winning director and producer Ian Bonhote, and Peter Ettegui, the 111-minute film offers a rare glimpse into the world of Alexander McQueen, trailing his journey from East London and his early career to his momentous rise to fame and his tenure at Givenchy and Gucci – whilst still uncovering his personal battles.

But rather than taking a less-personal commemorative approach, the documentary moves through his life guided by raw interviews from people who knew the late designer, as well as clips of friends, family and colleagues reflecting on the life they shared with him.

The documentary also sees the designer himself, telling his own stories in interviews and never seen before archived footage, including some shot by McQueen himself.

The Dubai screening is part of Cinema Akil’s Opening Program, where the independent cinema aims to bring people together at Warehouse 68 in Alserkal Avenue for a showcase of films from both regional and international film festivals.

The film screening will be held in collaboration with Project Chaiwala, a local tea concept where movie-goers will able to dine inside the cinema.

McQueen at Cinema Akil from 28 September onwards. Tickets will be available for purchase on the day.
