Jay Z is Now the Richest Rapper in the World

Jay-Z, Diddy and Dre are three of the most iconic and influential artists and producers in the history of hip-hop – and because rap has officially become mainstream – it’s catapulted the three moguls in to the upper echelons the annual Forbes Five list.

Both Jay-Z and Diddy (respectively first and second) owe their rising fortunes to their investments in the alcohol industry. Alongside music, Jay-Z’s super-high net worth of $900 million is also the result of his investment in Armand de Brignac champagne and D’Ussé cognac.

The two NY-natives are most likely to become the first ever rappers to enter the Forbe’s top billionaires list.

Yet, with his $770 million fortune, Dre could get there first, as he is expected to receive revenues from Apple, due to its buyout of Beats in 2014.

Following the gargantuan success of his two previous albums Views and More Life – Drake now joins the legendary line-up of artists to make the Forbes list thanks to his contracts with Apple and Nike.

While young rappers and producers such as Migos and Metro Boomin never cease to rein over the Billboard Hot 100 chart, it seems like the Southern trappers still have a long way to go before dethroning the 90’s pioneers.
