Mo Salah Named African Player of the Year

Another title in the bag for the star footballer

For the second year in a row, Egyptian footballer Mo Salah just bagged the Confederation of African Football’s highest title of African Player of the Year, beating out his fellow African Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane and Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

During a celebratory ceremony in the Senegalese capital of Dakar on Tuesday, the 26-year-old accepted his award.

“This award is very big for me, I love it because I saw it when I was young and I always had a dream to win it one day” Salah said before dedicating his win to his native Egypt.

“I’m proud to win it twice, I must thank my family and my teammates, and I dedicate this award to my country, Egypt.” He said.

Salah’s achievements are practically unrivalled, having scored two goals for Egypt at the World Cup in Russia last year, and an astounding 44 goals for Liverpool last season, leading the team to the Champions League final.

As for the confederation’s Women’s Player of the Year award, Houston Dash and South Africa footballer Thembi Kgatlana was named winner.
