Last month, Nadia Murad made history by being the first Iraqi to ever win a Nobel Peace Prize. The young Yazidi woman—who was tortured and raped by Islamic State militants—has become the voice of her people, and of the thousands of other women who are still held captive by ISIS, since her escape in 2014.
On October 24, Murad will be coming to the UAE for the third edition of the two-day Investing In The Future Conference. This year’s conferenced will be held in Sharjah and will have a strong focus on ‘Youth – Crisis Challenges and Development Opportunities’. Murad will will share her intimate and inspiring story and put a spotlight on the importance of resistance in situations of conflict and war.
“We aim to communicate her inspiring message to innocent women and youth who are victims of war of crises, and show them that their determination and collective strength is key to transforming their suffering and agony into triumph and a hope-filled future. Nadia is an example to everyone,” says Al Hammadi, Director of The Big Heart Foundation and organizer of the event.
Murad, who was named the UN’s first goodwill ambassador for survivors of human trafficking in 2016, also shared her traumatic story in her groundbreaking memoir The Last Girl: My Story of Captivity, and My Fight Against the Islamic State.
