The Saudi Radio Host Pioneering the Region’s Rap Scene

Big Hass’ The Beat is putting Arab rappers in the spotlight

Over the last few years, Arab rappers have been making ambitious career moves across the regional and international music industry. And now industry heavyweights are finally zeroing in, with Saudi radio host Hassan Ahmad Dennaoui—also known as Big Hass—leading the way.

The hip-hop enthusiast whose voice has been instrumental in the growth of the regional rap scene, made his vision of nurturing Arab artists clear when he launched the now widely popular live series ‘The Beat’. The debut event was held at The Flipside (Dubai’s first independent record store) in March 2018, and the show’s growing fan base saw it move to The Fridge in Alserkal Avenue.

This year’s edition—which will be the third—will see Iraqi-Canadian rapper Narcy take to the stage. The rapper will also be debuting his new album, entitled Space Time, the LP also includes stunning collaborations with mystical Lebanese singer Yasmine Hamdan and Lebanese rockers Mashrou’ Leila.

The line-up will also include some of the region’s biggest names including Lebanese DJ Lethal Skillz, Australian-Iranian soul singer Layla Kardan and Dubai-based rapper Moh Flow.
