Where is Everyone Vacationing this Summer?

From bougie getaways to local gems

Even though we’re already well in to peak summer, some of you might still be looking for some last minute vacation inspiration—and we’re here to help.

Whether you’re looking for a laid back luxury beach retreat or a local hidden gem, MILLE asked some of our favourite musicians, designers and photographers where they’re planning to spend their summer.

Dana Hourani, Lebanese singer and influencer

“Despite being Lebanese, I usually only spend a few days in Beirut during my holidays. But this time, I’ve decided to spend the entire summer there and take some time to discover and visit other famous spots and historical cities around the capital, such as Tyre, Sidon, Baalbeck, Zahle, Chouf, and Beqaa.”

“I spent my holidays in Capri, which is the perfect destination. Staying at JK Place is a must if you’re into the bougie stuff. Their food is literally insane.”

“Because I have kids and my travels have to be limited in time, I’ve planned two short trips this summer. At the end of the month, I’m going to Monaco for the Red Cross Gala with my husband. And then, we’re planning on spending some time off just the two of us at D Maris Bay hotel in Turkey, which seems like a heavenly spot, perfect for a summer retreat. The only thing I’m planning is quality time.”

The Abduls, Saudi it girls

“Our sunspot this summer is Marbella. This is where we always go with our friends almost every summer. We love it, because it’s a perfect mix of old and new Spain. Getting ice cream and shopping around Puerto Banus is our favourite afternoon plan. We’re also into crepes and pink pasta. Basically: tan, shop, eat and repeat.”

Ali Al Shehabi, Kuwaiti photographer

“Tokyo is my destination this summer. I studied mixed arts there from 2016 to 2017. I fell in love with the city the first time I visited in 2015. I have a special relationship with Tokyo, because it’s where I had my first exhibition for my photography series Life in Tokyo: Just a Dream  and as well as another solo show for my photography series The Middle East to the World. When I’m in Tokyo I get to both have fun and work: I love the food, the coffee and the parties. I also just shot a fashion editorial for TOQA to be featured in GAD (global art daily) magazine ISSUE 2 “SPICEGIRL” in August. Can’t get enough of Tokyo.”

Nasiba Hafiz, Saudi designer

“London and Cannes are the two destinations. I studied in London for 10 years; it’s like a second home to me. There’s always a new exhibition or something new to discover. The Frida Kahlo exhibition at the V&A is incredible.

Cannes is where my siblings and me meet every summer to spend time with our kids all-together. The best thing to do is to rent a car and explore different parts of the Riviera and even go to Italy. I love going to local markets on the weekend and enjoy some good French food. Eileen Gray’s property and Le Corbusier in Cap Ferrat are a must visit.”

Myriam Ben Salah, Tunisian art curator

“August is beach time. Every summer, I go to the Aeolian Islands in the North of Sicily. My friend has a house on one of the islands and hosts lots of people during the entire month. From there, we end up visiting the other islands: Stromboli to do some volcano trekking, Salinas to chill and Panarea to party. Then I go to Tunis from Palermo, where I’m spending the rest of the holidays with my family.

This year I’ve also been tempted to join my friend the DJ and music producer Jana Saleh in Beirut and crash all the weddings she’s playing.”
