It’s official: Bassel Khaiat is Dior’s newest fragrance ambassador. The 48-year-old Syrian actor, whose career has spanned cinema, television, and theatre, has just been appointed as one of the French luxury house’s latest representatives for its fragrance division, tasked with fronting the brand’s olfactory universe across the Middle East and North Africa.
Already a frequent collaborator of the Paris-based Maison, news of Khaiat’s ambassadorship comes as little surprise when considering the longstanding relationship he has maintained with the label over the years. Already serving as one of the Maison’s couture ambassadors, he was spotted at Jonathan Anderson’s first-ever show at the helm of the house and, more recently, at his Dior Men presentation in January. Beyond the runway circuit, the Damascus-born thespian has also become a familiar face across many of the brand’s regional activations, making the announcement feel like a natural progression.
“With his charisma, refinement, and modern audacity, Bassel Khaiat the pioneering spirit of Francis Kurkdjian, Perfume Creation Director and embodies the creative vision brought by Creative Director Jonathan Anderson, an expression of elegance and excellence in perfect harmony with the House,” a recently shared press release from the brand said about Khaiat.
To mark the announcement, we decided to round up five essential facts to know about Bassel Khaiat, Dior Fragrance’s newest ambassador.
He Started Acting When He Was Super Young
40-years ago to be more exact. He joined children’s theatre when he was just eight years old, long before becoming one of the Arab world’s most recognizable TV stars.
Acting Didn’t Come Easy to Him
Khaiat’s path into acting wasn’t exactly straightforward. After initially being rejected from the Damascus Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts, he reapplied the following year, eventually securing a place before graduating in 1999 alongside fellow successful Syrian actors Kosai Khauli and Sulafa Memar.
He is married to Nahed Zaidan, and they share two children: a son named Shams and a daughter named Isabelle. Fun fact: before settling down, the Syrian actor was previously engaged to Tunisian actress Hend Sabry, which remains one of Arab entertainment’s most forgotten power couples.
He Was Bulgari’s First-Ever Ambassador for the Middle East
Before joining Dior’s fragrance division, Khaiat made history as the first-ever Middle Eastern ambassador for Bulgari in 2023, marking a significant moment in the Italian luxury house’s relationship with the region.
He Has a Soft Spot for Spain and Pasta
In a previous interview with What’s Up Cairo, the actor revealed his love for Italian cuisine. He then admitted that if he had to pick another country besides Syria, it would probably be Spain; a place he reportedly returns to often, whether for personal escapes or family holidays.
