If you’re hunting for the ultimate travel photo, who better to ask than a local? MILLE caught up with photographer and content creator Abari, the talent behind the Instagram account Tangier by Abari, where he captures the northern Moroccan city’s stunning beauty and culture. “It’s the perfect way for me to document my city,” he tells MILLE. For Abari, Tangier is where different worlds collide: “Tangier feels like a mix of the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and Latin America all at once. It’s as if you’re standing at the center of the world. Perched atop hills overlooking Spain and the Mediterranean, the city offers stunning views and beautiful weather year-round.” Below, Abari guides us through Tangier’s most picturesque, Instagram-worthy spots, from where to get the best view in the city to the perfect place to get that golden hour selfie.
Kasbah
“Like most Moroccan cities, Tangier has a bustling Medina. Tangier’s Medina is small unlike Marrakech and Fez for instance, so you can easily cross it and find your way to the Kasbah. The Kasbah Museum is worth visiting; it’s where the sultan used to live.”
Aux 3 Portes
“I recommend going to Aux 3 Portes in the morning for a drink or breakfast. It’s right next to the Kasbah, with an amazing garden overlooking the Mediterranean.”
Phoenician Tombs
“In my opinion, this spot has the best view in all of Tangier.”
Café Hafa
“The best café in Tangier and a must-see! It gets very crowded at sunset and on weekends, so try to arrive a bit early to catch the sunset.”
City Center
“The heart of Tangier with beautiful views.”
Think Tanger
“A bookstore that hosts cool events. Make sure to check their Instagram while you’re in Tangier.”
Eric’s Burgers
“A unique burger shop you’ll only find in Tangier. Be sure to try their quality burgers– the perfect late-night snack since they stay open very late.”
Plage Municipale
“The closest beach, right in the city center. The sunsets here are beautiful, especially at the far end of the coast. You can ride a horse or go for a morning run.”
Rmilat Park
“Known as Tangier’s “lungs,” this forest provides fresh air and beautiful landscapes.”
Cape Spartel
“Tangier’s most famous lighthouse, depicted on the 200 dirham bill, where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic.”
Cap Malabata (El Mnar)
“Tangier’s second, lesser-known lighthouse. The sunset here is amazing, with views of the entire city while you enjoy tea.”
Dikki 2 Beach
“All the beaches on Tangier’s east side are beautiful. The further you go, the clearer the water. This beach is a prime example of what you’ll find along the coast.”
Oued El Marsa Beach
“At the far end of the coast lies Oued El Marsa Beach. It’s a bit remote, so it’s less crowded in summer. The view of Jebel Musa is stunning, and it’s the closest point in Africa to Europe at just 14 km.”
Belyounech Beach
“Located near Oued El Marsa, this beach is also 14 km from Spain. The water is quite cold, so it’s not ideal for swimming, but the view of the big rocks and Isla Perejil is breathtaking.”
