Beyond the personal milestone, Razeek hopes the recognition will bring greater attention towards Egyptian filmmaking as a whole. “Egypt has extraordinary talent, stories and cinematic potential,” he said. “I hope this recognition encourages more attention towards filmmakers and crews from the region, and shows that work made here can stand alongside the best internationally without compromising its identity,” he added. Razeek was also quick to credit the wider team behind the project. “Film is never made by one person,” he said, adding that the award reflects “the commitment of everyone who believed in BZNS,” from his creative director Eric Rakotonirina and producers at Butter Films to cinematographer Mostafa El Kashef, stunt coordinator Kazomi, editor Simon Traitant, colourist Nadia Khairat Gomez, the cast of non-actors, and the wider crew. “This recognition belongs to all of them as much as it does to me.”
Having championed and platformed Razeek since the early stages of his career, when first interviewed him in 2023, he spoke about his ambition to leave a lasting mark on the industry. A few years later, he’s proving to be one of the few creatives genuinely walking the talk — and we couldn’t be happier for him.
