Algerian Singer Lolo Zouaï Makes Her Debut on ‘A Colors Show’

Algerian-French singer-songwriter Lolo Zouaï has just made her official first appearance on the Berlin-based show, Colors. Against another monochrome background — this time washed in an almost-crimson red shade — the 30-year-old artist delivered a live-performance of her track Desert Rose PT.II; a sequel to a track of the same name featured on her debut album High Highs to Low Lows released in 2019. What’s more, the song hit #1 on Algeria’s RnB chart just mere 24-hours after its release.

Across three languages — English, French, and Arabic — the Paris-born artist folds themes of abandonment, longing, and inherited grief into a stripped-back performance that stays close to the bone. Coming as the first look into her next project — Reveries, her third studio album — scheduled for release for April 24, her Colors show performance also marks her official return to the scene after years spent largely away from the public’s eye.

Active since the late 2010s, Lolo Zouaï made her mark through her genre-blurring early releases, the cult momentum of High Highs to Low Lows, and a string of collaborations that quickly set her apart within the era’s alt-pop wave. Known for always incorporating elements, whether sonic or visual, from her North African heritage, her identity has been the defining axis of her career, with many fans reading this new chapter as a return to storytelling and relatability that first drew them to her.
