Valentino Makes its Foray into Vintage Market

A first of its kind

The rumours are true, Italian fashion house Valentino is making its way into the resell market. Calling it the Valentino Vintage project, the Maison’s programme is one of the first of its kind.

The project was unveiled on October 27 with a dedicated page on the brand’s website which explains the process Valentino customers can give new life their vintage pieces.

On the website, users will be able to find the brand’s participating stores and request an appraisal of their garments. Once the appraisal is received and approved, customers will be able to shop new pieces at other Valentino boutiques.

The news comes amidst a rise in critique of the fashion industry’s impact on the environment and an overall critique of  overconsumption that led to a growing popularity of vintage and secondhand shopping. As it stands, the fashion industry is the world’s second biggest polluter, coming after the oil industry.

Needless to say, Valentino’s newest program is a fresh take on steps fashion houses can take towards becoming more environmentally friendly with hopes of reducing their staggering carbon footprint.
