Art Basel is officially heading to the Middle East. In a major cultural move, Art Basel and its parent company MCH have announced the launch of a brand-new art fair in Qatar, in partnership with Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) and QC+. The inaugural edition of Art Basel Qatar is set to take place in February 2026, marking the brand’s first foray into the MENA region.

The fair will be held at M7, the state-of-the-art creative hub in downtown Doha’s Msheireb district, next to the Doha Design District. Known for its tightly curated showcases, Art Basel Qatar will spotlight Modern and contemporary art from across the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia, and beyond.

It will join an already buzzing regional art calendar that includes Art Dubai, Abu Dhabi Art, and the Diriyah Biennale, further cementing the Gulf’s growing reputation as a global cultural crossroads.

Backed by Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairperson of Qatar Museums and a driving force behind the country’s meteoric rise in the art world, the new fair is more than just another stop on the art calendar—it’s a strategic extension of Qatar’s ongoing cultural renaissance. From spearheading future institutions like the Art Mill Museum and Lusail Museum, to establishing a permanent national pavilion in Venice’s Giardini della Biennale, Qatar is fast becoming a key player on the global art map.

Art Basel Qatar will join the fair’s flagship events in Basel, Miami Beach, Paris, and Hong Kong, making it the fifth addition to its international portfolio—and the first anchored in the Arab world.

Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, chairman of QSI, described the launch as a “cultural sequel” to Qatar’s hosting of the 2022 World Cup, emphasizing the nation’s long-term strategy of merging sports and art to amplify its soft power. “As that event demonstrated so unforgettably, sports and culture are closely linked in their capacity to unite people and bring the world together,” he said.
