As the Gulf continues to experience unprecedented levels of tension and violence amid the escalating conflict involving the United States, its allies, and Iran, a growing number of cultural events, fairs, and large-scale gatherings are being forced to reconsider their timelines. Art Dubai is the latest addition to that list.
Originally scheduled for April 17 to 19 at Madinat Jumeirah, the fair— one of the region’s most significant art gatherings— had maintained until recently that it would proceed as planned, even as tensions mounted across the Arabian Peninsula. However, with ongoing disruptions to airspace, security concerns and general travel restrictions, the situation has grown increasingly difficult to navigate for the artists, collectors, and institutions expected to participate.
“Following our last communication, we have remained in close dialogue with all our stakeholders and across these discussions, there remains a clear sense that maintaining the platform that Art Dubai represents is important for the wider cultural ecosystem,” organizers explained in the caption of an official Instagram post. “This edition will take the form of a more focused and flexible format, bringing together galleries, artists, and institutions through a combination of presentations, collaborations, and public programming,” they added.
As stated across its official channels, the 20th edition of the fair will now be postponed by a few weeks, rescheduled to take place from May 14 to 17 at Madinat Jumeirah under an “adapted format.” From what has been shared, this 2026 edition will focus on bringing galleries, artists, and institutions together through a combination of presentations, collaborations and public programming, rather than its usual wide-scale activations. Meanwhile, participants unable to attend will have the option to present their works remotely with support from on-site teams. Those who choose not to participate will be offered alternative arrangements, including the option to roll their involvement over to next year.
