Art Week  Riyadh

Packed with all kinds of events, Riyadh’s cultural calendar apparently still has some room left to host a brand new art initiative. Scheduled to make its debut later this year, Art Week  Riyadh (AWR) is launching from April 6-13 to celebrate the Kingdom’s creativity by drawing leading galleries, institutions, artists, and collectors, along with their insight and expertise, to the heart of the country’s administrative capital.

Spearheaded by Saudi Arabia’s Visual Arts Commission, the week-long event comes with the aim of cultivating KSA’s budding art scene through a forward-thinking programming “designed to honor the past, celebrate the present, and invest in the future.”  Across seven days, a series of different activities are expected to be rolled out throughout the city, including curated art exhibitions, private collection showcases, talks, workshops, and panels, all intended to cater to both local and international visitors and guests.

“Art Week Riyadh is about building a robust and inclusive framework—one that supports innovation, creativity and thought leadership, and an unwavering commitment to preserving and advancing culture,” Dina Amin, CEO of the Visual Arts Commission, shared in a statement. “By bringing together diverse elements of the Saudi art sector, it aims to empower and nurture practitioners and foster a shared vision of growth, opportunity, and cultural enrichment,” she added.

For its inaugural edition, organizers set their eyes on exploring the notions of “thresholds, transitions, and liminal spaces” under the theme “At the Edge.” Based on the information shared so far, these concepts would allegedly reflect Riyadh’s role as a global hub for all things related to culture. As of now though, no further information regarding tickets, curators, and participating galleries have been revealed. That said, with less than three months left before the festival flings its doors open, it should only be a matter of time.
