Bridgerton actress Nicola Coughlan has helped raise over $1.9 million to bring relief to Gaza, it has been revealed. After a heartfelt Instagram post urging her fans to come in support of International non-governmental organization Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF), the campaign saw an impressive surge in donations, significantly amplifying its reach and impact.
Rapidly picked up by American pop-singer Ariana Grande, the fundraiser managed to collect an impressive $1.7 million, adding to the $32,646 already raised by the organization through its own social media efforts.
Ever since the latest outbreak of the conflict on Oct. 7, Coughlan’s commitment to aiding affected Palestinian communities has been steadfast and resolute. Over the past few months, the Irish actress— who’s better known as Penelope Featherington in Netflix hit series Bridgerton— has consistently leveraged her platform to raise awareness and support those impacted by the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
Personally connected to the Holy Land, Coughlan had revealed in previous interviews that her family once lived in Jerusalem— in the 1970s— at the time when her father served in the Irish Army and was part of the UN’s Truce Supervision Organization. “I feel very passionately about it,” she once said. “I’m Irish, also, so it’s sort of a different perspective. I just feel if I have this global platform, which I do at the minute, I think if I can hopefully raise funds for aid organizations, I have a fundraiser on my Instagram right now for Medical Aid for Palestine and if people would like to donate to that or share it, I think it would be a wonderful thing to do,” she expanded.
On other occasions, including red carpets and official events, the 37-year-old can regularly be seen wearing pins supporting Palestine. This includes appearances at the official premiere of the new season of Bridgerton and during promotional events, such as television appearances on US shows like Late Night with Seth Meyers and Good Morning America.
