If you’re a DJ, scroll carefully as it has just been revealed that MDLBEAST is organizing a competition that could take you on a world tour. The tournament, dubbed Storm Shaker, is in its fourth edition, and invites all up-and-coming disc-spinners to submit a half-hour-long demo tape of their work before Sept. 23 to win a prestigious prize. This year, there’s a twist: the winner will receive the dream chance to perform across several venues in the region and beyond.
The contest, which is part of MDLBEAST’s array of cultural initiatives, is open to all, with only 10 participants expected to make it through to the semi-finals. According to Storm Shaker’s official website, submitted sets will “be evaluated on track selection, mixing style, technical ability, creativity, storytelling, experimentation, and flow.” Additional criteria for selection include “overall mixing, speed, rhythmic skill, (and) use of equipment,” as well as “musical style, track flow, and compatibility.”
Out of the 10 candidates, four finalists will be selected to perform 30-minute sets at the upcoming edition of XP Music Futures. Judges will then choose two DJs to advance to the final round. The winner of the final head-off will be flown out and given residency to perform at the forthcoming iteration of MDLBEAST Soundstorm in Saudi Arabia, at Exit Festival in Serbia, O’BEACH Dubai in the UAE, at MOGA Festival in Morocco, and at BSMNT The Club in Tunisia.

The other three finalists will have to console themselves with their contest-performance at XP, which will most likely mark their debut win the Kingdom, as well as accommodation and tickets for SoundStorm. So what are you waiting for, get mixing!
