Habitas, the sustainable hospitality brand known for its chic, millennial-geared hotels in trending locations, sets its sights on a new locale: Morocco.

The hotel group, which was recently honored at the highly-competitive Hospitality Design Awards 2022, has made its debut in Morocco this fall with Caravan Agafay.

Situated about 45 minutes away from the Marrakesh airport, the new eco-conscious retreat is an immersive glamping site nestled in the rocky dunes of the Agafay Desert. It features 20 traditional canvas tents spread across a sprawling 5-hectares, a gourmet restaurant that uses only locally-sourced ingredients, two refreshing swimming pools, a horse and camel stable, an outdoor cinema, a wellness center, and a communal area.

Meanwhile, the activities offered are adventurous and relaxing. Think: camel trekking, horseback riding, yoga, star and moon-gazing over the dramatic vistas, as well as visits to local Amazigh communities provided by Habitas RISE to raise awareness amongst guests.

Caravan Agafay is the Oliver Ripley-founded group’s second establishment in Africa, and the first of four properties set to open in the North African country. The decision to launch hospitality projects in Morocco is certainly a strategic one, as the country is the leader when it comes to North African tourism. Internationally, Morocco ranks 38th in terms of tourist destinations (neighboring Tunisia and Algeria rank 49th and 111th, respectively.)

Habitas boasts properties on three continents, including the brand’s first Middle Eastern property, Habitas AlUla, in Saudi Arabia’s spectacular AlUla region.
