In 1912, Jacques Cartier, flanked by his sales team, ventured to the Gulf for the first time, in search of the region’s legendary pearls. This expedition marked the beginning of a longstanding and fruitful relationship with the area. Honoring this rich heritage, the historic Al Shindagha Museum presents “Cartier: A Journey of Wonders.” Hosted in the historic former residence of Dubai’s ruling family, this exhibition showcases over 300 pieces of high jewelry, precious objects, and timepieces. Organized thematically rather than chronologically, the display delves into Cartier’s artistic influences and celebrates its deep ties with the UAE.
Open to the public from Feb. 16 and 17, the exhibition marks the Maison’s 25th anniversary in the region. It unfolds over three distinct experiences, each one offering a unique perspective on the inspirations behind Cartier’s creations. It begins with the sea, highlighting how Dubai’s relationship with its waters and pearl diving has shaped its culture for centuries. The exhibit then transitions into the desert, where the vast dunes inspire tales of survival and beauty, before culminating in a dazzling display that mirrors the starlit desert sky with an array of exquisite gemstones and diamonds.
Ahead of the opening, Cartier fêted the exhibition with a dazzling event that brought together an array of regional and international stars, including Tunisian actor Dhafer L’Abidine, Egyptian actress Tara Emad, and Emirati podcaster Anas Bukhash, all decked out in Cartier jewels.
