Check in to the World’s Most Expensive Ski Chalet This Winter

This is what a million dollar ski break looks like

Chalet N is quite literally, the world’s most beautiful private ski chalet. The indulgent 22-bedroom property is nestled deep in the heart of Lech, Austria (a world away and more low-key than Courchevel, Klosters or Gstaad).

With winter fast approaching, there’s no better time to book in your winter getaway. And if you want the ski trip of a lifetime then book a stay at Chalet N.

Upon arriving at Zurich—the closest airport to the property—a luxury SUV will await your arrival (provided by the Chalet, of course). Within two and a half hours, you begin the 1,660-metre ascent up the winding mountains and dense forestry leading up to the small mountain-town of Lech.

The chalet sits on prime position of the mountain, and thanks to the small mountain town’s fortunate microclimate, Lech is skiable right up until the beginning of May, when the resorts all close for the season.

It’s hard to describe Chalet N lightly– namely because the property has been designed and art directed to perfection. Upon entering the property, roaring minimalist fire places greet you (as does one of the many, many staff with a glass of champagne or tea in hand – depending on your mood/preference).

With a living room, full bar, 360-degree outdoor terrace, full kitchen (complete with live-in staff), 22-bedrooms, sprawling spa, indoor pool, hay sauna, Finnish sauna, steam rooms and waterbeds as well as a cosy cinema, bottomless wine cellar (complete with dining room that’s perfect for late-night dining), pool tables and outdoor jacuzzis – it’s easy to see why the property boasts the highest rental fee of any other chalet in the world (a cool £250,000 per week btw).

The property has no social media accounts, no Facebook ‘check ins’ and no Instagram geotags… the property is known purely by word of mouth. With a hoard of celebrity clientele, it’s one of those places that you namedrop in conversation and will go over most people’s heads. A private oasis in the heart of prime ski terrain.

All of the 22 bedrooms are outstanding. In terms of size – they’re more comparable to large penthouse apartments. With sweeping living rooms; complete with marble fireplace, TV, huge plush couches, fur throws, delicious scented candles and 180-degree floor-to-celling unspoiled mountain views – and a balcony that’s perfect for those sunnier afternoons.

The bedroom / bathroom areas take luxury in to a whole new league. Think Japanese self-warming toilets (two in each room), walk-in wardrobes, a huge open plan bathroom with plunge tub and rainforest showers (again with floor-to-ceiling mountain views – you catch my drift). All products are Bvlgari and the beds are to-die-for. Super featherweight down duvets, and gigantic melt-in-to-them pillows.

If you ever manage to peel yourself away to check out the rest of the property, be sure to head to the chalet’s spa. Not only does it come complete with fully-trained staff on hand all day and night (think back-to-back unlimited facials and deep tissue massages) but the huge indoor pool—complete with jets and an unbeatable view—is open all night.

If you’re actually in to skiing more than après skiing then Chalet N is perfect for you. With a changing room located by the spa—with heated boot racks to dry off those soggy boots—you can slip in to your skiwear and take the lift straight on to the slope. From spa to slope in less than five minutes. I know.

When evening rolls around, trust on the expertly trained kitchen staff to whip you up something delicious (breakfast alone is a truffle-covered, opulent experience so you can only imagine what dinner has to offer). Cosy up by the fireplace and debate if you could ever actually return to normal life.

Prices are from €250,000 / 1.2 million DH per week in mid-season
