In Conversation With Egyptian Multi-Hyphenate Nada Nader

what can she not do?

In today’s creative landscape, thriving in the industry entails honing more skills than ever— especially on the digital side of things. With just a few taps, anyone now can have access to a platform. But as more people join the race, naturally, competition intensifies, and singling yourself out becomes an even greater feat.

Enter Egyptian multi-hyphenate Nada Nader. At a time when being a jack of all trades is often celebrated but rarely perfected, Nada is proving you can wear a million hats and slay in each one. A dancer, actor, and singer, as well as her own videographer, social media manager, and PR rep, the modern-day multitasker defies the idea that you have to pick one lane to succeed. So far, she’s thriving on every front.

A true product of her generation, the rising star is constantly creating and crafting at a pace that few can match.  This year alone, she’s dropped two EPs, AL3AB NARYA and EZAYOKO, all while cultivating her online presence through a myriad of campaigns, concepts, and photoshoots all for her nearly 50,000 Instagram followers.

Below, MILLE sat down with the rising star to chat about her obsession with visual arts, how she juggles so many disciplines, and what keeps her creative fire burning.

Could you start off by telling us a bit more about yourself?

I’m a multidisciplinary artist. I sing, I dance, I act, and I’m also an acting coach.

Like you said, you’re involved in quite a few artistic practices. Is there any one in particular that you prefer?

Acting for me is my main passion, but music has always been in my blood. It’s the first art form that I started when I was a kid in school. Since my school didn’t have a theater, I used to sing all the time instead. But as of right now, I don’t think I’d be able to pick one over the other, because I’m equally passionate about them all.

Does it ever get overwhelming to be dealing with so many different disciplines all at once?

So many people actually ask me about this. For me, they are all they complete each other. And to be honest I don’t have much choice. If you go to any acting school outside of Egypt, like in Europe or America, you have to sing and dance, act and so on all at once. It’s normal, it’s not something extra. It’s the basics to have as an actor, as they all add something to whatever you’re working on.

What is it in the realm of arts that you find so comfortable, so soothing?

It’s a form of self expression, it’s a language of its own. When I decided to go into dancing, singing, and all of that, it basically felt like I was looking for different ways to express myself. To this day, it’s still my favorite way to express whatever I have in mind or feel.

How would Nada from a couple of years ago look at the Nada of today?

I’m so proud of you. I look at her and say, ‘I’m so proud of you’, and believe you’re still going to achieve so much more.

What do you currently have in the works?

I’m working now on a performance that will be happening in Cairo. I’m also working on a short film that’s going to be screened at the El Gouna Film Festival next year. It was supposed to premiere this year, but it got postponed to next. There’s news that it could go to Cannes, too. So, I’m super excited right now!

And for those that might look up to you, if you could give them any piece of advice, what would you tell them?

Keep working on yourself, on your skills, keep learning and questioning, go watch movies, go attend performances. All of this will add to you both as a person and an artist.
