Dana Hourani Drops the Ultimate Feminist Anthem

Introducing 'Ma Byenkhaf Alayi'

Lebanese artist and cultural disruptor Dana Hourani just dropped her latest single, Ma Byenkhaf Alayi, and it’s pure fire. The track is an anthem for anyone who’s ever had to claw their way back to themselves after losing their shine in someone else’s shadow. With vocals that cut straight to the soul and a gospel choir that feels like a spiritual high, the track is a defiant celebration of independence, self-worth, and an emblem of feminine power.

Hourani’s lyrics paint a vivid picture of liberation and self-discovery nestled through the guitars soothing acoustics. Ma Byenkhaf Alayi is the kind of song that makes you want to throw your hands in the air, scream-sing the lyrics, and remember that you don’t need anyone to complete you—you’re already the main character.

Before Hourani was serving up anthems for the self-empowered, she was building her empire one Instagram post at a time. What started as a platform for her effortlessly cool fashion sense and lifestyle content became the launchpad for her music career. With a feed that’s equal parts art and attitude, Hourani took the leap into music, posting a stripped-back cover of Anne-Marie’s 2002. The internet has loved her ever since.

The Dubai-based artist released her debut single, Ella Enta, in April 2019. The following year, the world came to a standstill as the COVID-19 pandemic led to a global lockdown. While it posed challenges, particularly the inability to perform live, it also became an unexpected period of creative productivity for the 39-year-old.

Despite the limitations, she continued to build momentum, eventually releasing her debut album, Ensanein, in November 2021 to great success—setting the stage for her latest single to follow suit.

Today, the artist is a force to be reckoned with in the MENA indie scene. Her sound, a hypnotic blend of velvety vocals, acoustic textures, and celestial production, feels like floating in a dreamscape. Born in Sharjah and raised in Beirut, Hournan is well on her way to becoming a cultural icon, using her platform to amplify the voices and issues that matter, one track at a time.
