Did Mugler and Gentle Monster Just Unveil the Hottest Sunglasses of the Summer?

Coming to a store near you!

With bright days of sunshine on the horizon, a pair of good, stylish sunglasses are non-negotiable. If you’re struggling to find a flattering style to invest in, then you’ll be pleased to know that French fashion house Mugler has partnered with South Korean eyewear brand Gentle Monster on an otherworldly collection of avant-garde eyewear, drawing inspiration from the late Thierry Mugler’s iconic Les Insectes Spring 1997 Haute Couture collection.

The line drew inspiration from reptiles, insects, butterflies, and otherworldly motifs with creations that included a stunning sheath gown adorned with expansive butterfly wings crafted from chicken feathers, and a breathtaking strapless mermaid corset dress embellished with embroidery and thousands of sequins, meticulously hand-painted by Mr. Pearl, a noted corset maker of the late 20th century. A standout piece from the collection was the coveted “Tire Dress,” a collaboration with leather designer Abel Villareal, made from rubber and leather.

Now transporting Mugler’s otherworldly collection into frames, the collaboration showcases two distinctive shades— Spiral 01 and Spiral 02— alongside a conceptual, illuminating headpiece. Spiral 01 features a geometric design adorned with tentacle-like spikes, echoing the glasses from the insect-themed collection that have become coveted treasures among fashion collectors and prestigious institutions such as The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and Palais Galliera in Paris.

In contrast, Spiral 02 offers a more subdued interpretation of Mugler’s avant-garde essence. This wrap around style incorporates embossed line details reminiscent of Mugler’s best selling spiral leggings, complemented by a chrome logo on the temples.

The release is accompanied by a campaign shot by Chinese photographer Theo Liu, featuring models Colin Jones and Georgia Palmer, encapsulating the fusion of design and high fashion.

From their whimsical jelly collection to their sci-fi-infused collaboration with Maison Margiela—both of which flew off the shelves—Gentle Monster has solidified its reputation as a marketing powerhouse.

The collaboration will be available through Mugler and Gentle Monster’s official online and offline stores starting July 18 , as well as select multi-brand shops worldwide. Our advice? Set an alarm as we’re sure the shades will sell-out within minutes.
