Eid is literally around the corner, and there’s an extra reason to celebrate this year. Disney’s recently-launched streaming platform, Disney+ will be releasing its first Muslim-themed film.
Entitled “American Eid”, the film will be centred around an eight-year-old girl named Ameena, who takes extreme measures to celebrate the religious holiday in the US—a country where the religious celebration is not recognised as a national holiday.

Confronted with the reality that life will go on as usual on the day; with her going to school and her parents heading off to work on Eid day, Ameena starts a petition at her school for the holiday to be recognised in America.
But when her 13-year-old sister, Zara (who goes by Z at school) catches wind of the petition circulating at the school, she grows angry with her for highlighting their family’s differences.
A release date for the film is yet to be released. And while there’s no word on when Disney+ will be made available in the region, the good news is that local network OSN recently made a deal with Disney to broadcast all their original content.
