For art connoisseurs, owning a valuable piece of art can sometimes feel far-fetched and unattainable in the current economic climate. Yet, for anyone with an affinity for the arts and a desire to adorn their home with a one-of-a-kind piece, Dubai is set to play host to a new platform that may allow you to do just that without breaking the bank. With an ever-rising arts scene and the Art Dubai Group at the forefront, the exciting new fair aims to present high-quality artworks for all budgets, collectors, and enthusiasts.
Dubbed Editions, the event will take place from Nov. 6-9, making its debut during Dubai Design Week at the bustling Design District (D3). This event will be the first art and design fair in the Middle East to focus on editioned artworks, which are reproductions made from a master. These editioned artworks are created specifically for reproduction but on a limited scale, typically numbered and signed by the artist. The fair will feature works from over 50 galleries, design studios, and collectives.
The artworks showcased at the fair will vary in medium and style, including contemporary design pieces, prints, photography, ceramics, and works on paper. These pieces will be offered at a range of price points and will be exhibited exclusively at Editions, Dubai. So, whether you’re looking to purchase your first art piece or add to your existing collection, Editions Dubai is the place to be.
Established in 2007, the Art Dubai Group has created several platforms that enrich the arts and cultural landscape in Dubai and across the region. Two of its most popular events are Art Dubai, one of the region’s most prominent art fairs, and Downtown Design. “Art is essential for our growth and for our understanding of the world,” says Pablo del Val, artistic director of Art Dubai, in an interview with The National. “The act of collecting itself is a very meaningful experience. When you collect, you build connections with creatives, collaborate with artists and designers, and inevitably build up a historical narrative of the place where you are based.”
A recent Artsy Art Fair Report ranked Dubai seventh among the most important art fair cities in the world, just after Los Angeles. The report also found that the primary reason galleries participate in art fairs worldwide is to meet new collectors. The establishment of a new art fair in the region, focusing on collecting works, aligns with these findings. It comes at a time when Dubai is experiencing a significant influx of post-pandemic high-net-worth residents and those interested in starting their own collections at various price points, according to del Val.
