After signing the first Egyptian player in the club’s history earlier this summer, FC Barcelona’s connection to the Land of the Pharaohs remains very much alive as the Catalan football club has just announced a three-season sponsorship deal with EgyptAir.
Announced this week, the agreement will see Egypt’s national carrier become a Global Partner of the Spanish giants until the end of the 2028/29 season, as well as Barça’s Exclusive Official Airline across its men’s first football team, basketball team, and handball team. The partnership will perhaps be most visible on the latter, with EgyptAir’s logo set to be printed on the front of the handball team’s match-day shirts.
“Connecting FC Barcelona with EGYPTAIR, a benchmark for excellence and history in international aviation is a natural step to take in our expansion. This sponsorship reinforces our commitment to take the Barça values and passion to our followers in the Middle East and Africa, where we have an amazing fan community,” FC Barcelona Global Sponsorships director Marc Bruix said in a shared statement.
“Sponsoring one of the most prestigious clubs in the world — the current LaLiga and Spanish Super Cup champions — is an unprecedented achievement in the history of our national airline. This collaboration sees the 95-year history of EGYPTAIR dovetail with the global sporting leadership of FC Barcelona, opening new horizons to connect with football fans around the world,” EGYPTAIR Holding Company president Captain Ahmed Adel also added.
The partnership comes only months after 18-year-old Hamza Abdelkarim made history of his own by becoming the first Egyptian footballer to join Barçelona. And while the two deals are entirely separate, the timing does make Barcelona’s growing Egyptian connection rather difficult to ignore.
