Ever wondered what it would take for you to fly for free for life? Well, apparently, you just have to be born mid-flight. Last week, a Cameroonian mother gave birth onboard a flight from Cairo International Airport to Douala International Airport at an altitude of 35,000 feet, giving her newborn a unique start to life and a lifetime of free travel, courtesy of Egypt Air.
The flight, which was operated by Egypt’s national carrier, made headlines not only for the surprise delivery but also for the airline’s generous gesture of granting the newborn lifetime free travel. After departure, the baby’s mother went into labor, prompting the crew to create a makeshift delivery area right in the cabin. Thankfully, both mother and child were healthy and stable before, during, and after the experience.
Following the baby’s birth, the flight made an emergency landing at Kufra International Airport in southern Libya, where local authorities helped arrange for the mother and newborn to be transferred to a nearby hospital to be taken care of. Once the health of the Cameroonian mother and her baby were confirmed, the EgyptAir flight continued its journey to Douala International Airport in Cameroon as expected.
