Congratulations are in order for Ahmed Malek. The Egyptian actor won big at the 81st edition of Venice Film Festival (VFF) currently underway until Sept. 7, taking home five awards at the prestigious celebration of cinema for his work in My Father’s Scent.
Three other DFI-sponsored productions also struck gold, starting with Egyptian filmmaker Morad Mostafa’s Aisha Can’t Fly, which not only marked his debut in feature films but also earned his native Egypt its first La Biennale di Venezia Prize. As for the other winners, they include Lebanese director Nadim Tabet’s In This Darkness I See You and Mosotho screenwriter and director Lemohang Jeremiah Mosese’s Ancestral Visions of the Future.
Now in its 12th edition, the Final Cut category aims to reward work-in-progress films and their directors by offering them a platform to connect with the market and industry professionals, collaborate with renowned institutions, and gain valuable exposure and financial support.
