El Gouna Film Festival Announces New Dates

The festival is taking place from Dec.14-21

Following the news of the postponement of the 2023 El Gouna Film Festival (GFF), a recent update reveals that the sixth edition is now slated to take place from Dec. 14 to 21. Originally planned for Oct. 13 to 20 and later adjusted to Oct. 27 to Nov. 2, the festival organizers have now confirmed new dates.

The decision to reschedule initially arose in response to the horrifying events unfolding in Gaza, which commenced on Oct. 7. In light of the ongoing humanitarian crisis, the festival organizers expressed their commitment to addressing the situation by incorporating a special program dedicated to Palestinian cinema. In collaboration with the Palestinian Film Institute (PFI), the program aims to bring attention to the current conditions in Gaza, emphasizing the impactful role of storytelling in illuminating global issues.

Additionally, as part of the festival, a fundraising dinner is also scheduled with the purpose of collecting donations for humanitarian aid efforts in the enclave in collaboration with the Egyptian Red Crescent to ensure the efficient coordination of these relief initiatives. Although the event is scheduled to take place as planned, the festival will proceed without traditional celebrations, underscoring the GFF’s solidarity with the Palestinian people during these harrowing times.
