Most of us have grown up listening to Elissa, from classics like ‘Ayshalak’ and ‘Ajmal Ahsess’ to the more contemporary ‘Zakaria’—the Lebanese singer’s music has maintained solid standing within the region.
The pop star released her song ‘Eli kollou elli Yhebouni’ earlier today and revealed her secret battle with breast cancer in the music video.
“You are the reason I am strong and healthy… You are my strength. And this story is a thank you for all those who love me” she said in a statement.
Unlike her prior work that features the singer in fictional storylines, the video was shot documentary-style, opening with a clip of Elissa going through radiotherapy treatment. The seven-minute music video also features audio clips from seemingly real phone calls the singer made to friends and family members.
The announcement has caused shockwaves throughout the region, with fans from all over the world commemorating her for her bravery and sending their best wishes to the singer.
Thankfully, at the end of the video Elissa left a message to her fans, saying: “I’ve recovered, I’ve beaten the illness, and I won…. Early detection of breast cancer can save your life, don’t ignore it, face it”.
