Emirati Women’s Day 2026: What the Day Means, This Year’s Theme, and How to Celebrate

Every August, timelines begin filling up with happy Emirati women’s day messages, brands announce Emirati Women’s Day offers, and offices across the UAE find their own way to celebrate the women shaping the country. This year, though, Emirati Women’s Day is getting considerably bigger. For the first time, the celebrations will stretch beyond Aug. 28 and continue for an entire month, turning what has traditionally been a single date on the calendar into a longer national program of events, initiatives, and recognition.

There is plenty to celebrate. Emirati women now make up more than 70% of the Emirati workforce in the private sector, according to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, while women hold 50% of the seats in the Federal National Council. Those numbers make the familiar language around “empowerment” feel a little more concrete. They also explain why Emirati Women’s Day has grown into one of the UAE’s most visible annual celebrations.

Emirati Women’s Day: History and Significance

So, when is Emirati women’s day observed and why? It falls on Aug. 28 every year. The date wasn’t picked at random. Emirati Women’s Day was established in 2015 by Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, widely known as the Mother of the Nation, and coincides with the anniversary of the founding of the General Women’s Union on Aug. 28, 1975. The organization has spent more than five decades supporting women’s participation in public, professional, and social life across the UAE.

Emirati Women’s Day is still relatively young, even if the movement behind it is not. Long before Instagram graphics, corporate breakfasts, and an official Emirati women’s day logo became part of the annual proceedings, Emirati women were entering universities, government institutions, business, medicine, diplomacy, and industries that had previously been overwhelmingly male.

Today, their presence can be seen almost everywhere, from parliament and the arts to aviation and space science. The occasion therefore works as a snapshot of how dramatically women’s roles in the UAE have changed within a relatively short period. It also leaves room for a more useful question: what comes next?

What is the Theme for Emirati Women’s Day in 2026?

The official Emirati Women’s Day 2026 theme is “Together, We Rise Stronger and Better.” It was announced in July by Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, who said this year’s celebration would run from Aug. 28 until Sept. 28. Rather than presenting women’s achievements as a collection of exceptional individual success stories, the theme places them within families, workplaces, institutions, and communities. Progress, basically, rarely happens in a vacuum.

That thinking is also reflected in the newly prominent Mother of the Nation’s 50:50 Vision, a long-term national initiative looking ahead to 2075 and another 50 years of women’s participation and development in the UAE.

Ways to Celebrate

There is no prescribed way to mark Emirati Women’s Day, but naturally, the hospitality world has entered the chat. There are already dozens of Emirati Women’s Day offers across the country for 2026, ranging from complimentary desserts to spa treatments and special menus.

From complimentary yoga and oud workshops to pistachio tiramisu and mother-daughter spa dates, here are some of the best ways to celebrate Emirati Women’s Day 2026.

Make Your Own Oud Creation at Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental

One of the more interesting Emirati Women’s Day 2026 celebrations is happening at Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental in Abu Dhabi, which is hosting three days of complimentary workshops from Aug. 28 to 30. On Aug. 28, Emirati fragrance house Hind Al Oud will lead a Karat Oud Workshop exploring oud’s place in Emirati culture, fragrance layering and different grades of the ingredient. Guests will even decorate authentic oud chips with gold paint and foil. Reine de Roses takes over on Aug. 29 and 30 for floral arrangement workshops, with guests creating their own arrangements to bring home. All workshops are complimentary, although registration is required and spaces are limited.

Spend the Emirati Women’s Day Weekend at Zayed National Museum

Zayed National Museum is marking its first Emirati Women’s Day since opening with a three-day program led by Emirati artists. Between Aug. 28 and 30, visitors can try traditional Talli and Khous crafts, make date-based treats with Emirati chef Abeer Allouz, create a personalized fragrance and catch live performances from Emirati musicians Elham Al Marzooqi, Mariam Al Shaloubi, Alya Alshamsi and Noura AlShaer. The museum’s Women of the Nation tour also continues every Thursday and Saturday until Sept. 26, tracing women’s contributions to Emirati society across generations.

There’s another reason to save room for dessert at Amelia Dubai on Aug. 28. All women dining at the Downtown restaurant between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. will receive a complimentary Pelota de Chocolate, Amelia’s chocolate fondant. Before that, you can work your way through the restaurant’s Japanese-Peruvian menu, which also carries Mediterranean influences across its ceviches, tiraditos, sushi and seafood.
