Everything We Know About ‘The Sandman’ Season 2

the wait is almost over!

After more than two years since the debut of Netflix’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman, we are finally getting another season. The series, starring Lebanese-British actress Razane Jammal, initially began production in November 2023, before pausing filming due to the Writer’s Guild of America (WGA) and SAG-AFTRA strikes, but now, they are back on track. Read on for everything we know about the second season of The Sandman.

Who will be in the second season?
Esmé Creed-Miles joins the cast as Delirium, Adrian Lester as Destiny, and Barry Sloane as The Prodigal. The three join Tom Sturridge as Dream, Kirby as Death, Mason Alexander Park as Desire, and Donna Preston as Despair who are returning from Season 1.

Ruairi O’Connor will play Dream’s son Orpheus, Freddie Fox will play Loki, Clive Russell will play Odin, Laurence O’Fuarain will play Thor, Ann Skelly will play Nuala, Douglas Booth will play Cluracan, Indya Moore will play Wanda, Steve Coogan will play Barnabus, and Jack Gleeson will play Puck. Razane Jammal will reprise her role as Lyta Hall.

What can we expect from season 2?
Based on the little information that has been given, we can deduce that season 2 will cover two main volumes from the comic: “Season of Mists” and “Brief Lives,” as well as shorter one-shot stories such as “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and “The Song of Orpheus.” Gaiman seemingly doubled down on this plan, saying in an interview with RadioTimes that the second season would cover volumes three, four, and five. “Our plans for the second season is the second two graphic novels, which technically, in this case, will be books four and five, with some bits of the short stories in book three scattered among some other stuff.”

However, according to images leaked this week, production is filming key scenes from “The Kindly Ones,” which is The Sandman’s last volume. Specifically, the scene in question features Mervyn Pumpkinhead being visited by the Fates. Nuala (Ann Skelly), Lyta Hall (Razane Jammal) and Matthew the Raven were also involved in the shoot.

When will season 2 come out?
There is no official release date for season 2 yet. Production was delayed by last year’s WGA and SAG strikes in Hollywood. In the meantime, you can rewatch season 1 of The Sandman, which is still streaming on Netflix, in case you need to refresh your memory of the events. You can also check out  Dead Boy Detectives, based on another of Gaiman’s comic books set within the universe of The Sandman, which adds layers to the story and realm.
