Netflix has just set the release date for one of its latest originals, Abandoned Man (Metruk Adam), a haunting and emotionally charged movie about grief, redemption and starting life over from scratch. Starring Turkish actor Mert Ramazan Demir in his first-ever lead role, the drama is scheduled to debut on the American streaming platform on Aug. 22.
When and Where to Watch Abandoned Man (Metruk Adam)
The film will stream exclusively on Netflix with an 18+ rating, reflecting its mature psychological themes and intense dramatic tension. Leaning into themes to do with the notions of family, memory and emotional healing, Abandoned Man offers a distinctive view on what it means to move forward.
The Story of Abandoned Man (Metruk Adam) : A Soul Seeking Redemption
After serving a prison sentence for a crime he did not commit—a burden he carried to protect his younger brother— Baran is released into a world that’s just as unforgiving as the one he left behind.
With hopes of opening a repair shop and reclaiming some sense of stability, Baran starts facing challenges, from dealing with a fractured family, an unresolved past, and a sudden new responsibility—his niece, Lidya. The young girl becomes both a disruption and an anchor, breaking through Baran’s emotional walls and forcing him to confront what he’s been running from: his pain, his choices, and the possibility of a different future.
At its heart, Abandoned Man is about second chances. Through Baran’s resilience and Lidya’s innocence, the film proves how connection, some sacrifice, and hope can heal even the most wounded souls.
The Cast and Creative Team Behind Abandoned Man (Metruk Adam)
Leading the cast is Mert Ramazan Demir, known for his role as Ferit in Golden Boy (Yalı Çapkını). Here, he steps into a radically different role as Baran, delivering a performance built almost exclusively on emotional vulnerability. He’ll be sharing the screen with fellow Turkish actors Ada Erma, Rahim Can Kapkap and Ercan Kesal.
The film is directed by Çağrı Vila Lostuvalı, with a script penned by Deniz Madanoğlu and Murat Uyurkulak. Produced by Onur Güvenatam, Abandoned Man is brought to the screen by OGM Pictures.
A New Chapter for Mert Ramazan Demir
Best known for his role as Ferit Korhan in Golden Boy, Mert Ramazan Demir has since become a household name in the Turkish world of cinema. The series’ success— in Turkey and abroad—established him as one of the most promising profiles of his generation.
With Abandoned Man, Demir steps into new territory. Stepping away from his ex-character romantic characteristics, this time, the 27-year-old will have to work to show emotional restraint, guild and inner conflict on screen. Trading explicit expression for more silence, this new role will help show his range and maturity in front of cameras and big budget scripts.
Though he is moving away from the tropes that first made him famous, he seems to want to position himself for a career that can touch all ends of the creative spectrum.
First Look: Trailer and Teaser Reception
Netflix released a moving teaser capturing bits of Baran’s journey from his attempts to adapt to life outside of prison, to his care for Lidya, and battles to leave painful memories behind. The teaser was met with praise across most social media platforms, especially from Golden Boy fans, who were quick to celebrate Demir’s shift towards a more mature role than most he played so far.
