Kim Jones Exits Dior Homme

Here’s some fashion news we weren’t expecting: After seven years at the creative helm of Dior Homme, Kim Jones has decided to step down as Artistic Director. This marks the end of a significant chapter for Dior’s menswear, as confirmed by the House itself. Jones’s departure is part of a broader shake-up in the luxury fashion world, which has seen a lot of big names moving around lately.

Dior gave a big shout-out to Jones, praising his work for pushing their men’s collections onto the global stage and merging classic and contemporary vibes with some cool artist collabs, including Kaws, Hylton Nel, and Travis Scott. Jones really shook things up at Dior, mixing the brand’s classic elements with his own cutting-edge flair. His last show in Paris was quite the spectacle, featuring models blindfolded with ribbons and walking down in pieces inspired by Dior’s famous Ligne H silhouette. It ended with Jones getting the prestigious French Legion of Honor.

In what is perhaps the most exciting piece of fashion news, Glenn Martens has been appointed the new creative director of Maison Margiela, an OTB Group-owned label, effective immediately. He steps into the role previously held by John Galliano, who left the house in December after a decade. Martens, who has also been the creative director at Diesel since 2020 and recently left his 11-year tenure at Y/Project, is celebrated for his visionary approach in couture. “I have worked with Glenn for years, I have witnessed his talent, and I know what he is capable of,” Renzo Rosso, chairman of OTB Group, said in the release. “After Martin, who gave life to the Maison and its unique Artisanal line, and John who made it the most cutting-edge couture house in the world, I am proud to have a third couturier at its helm. Glenn, who studied at Antwerp’s Royal Academy of Fine Arts like Martin, has already shown his prowess and his vision in couture.”

Stefano Rosso, chairman of Maison Margiela, echoed this sentiment, expressing pride in the house’s heritage and its promising future under Martens’ leadership. The date for Martens’ debut collection with Maison Margiela has yet to be announced.

Pharrell and Tiffany & Co. Launch Bold New Collection Together

Pharrell and Tiffany & Co. have further developed their Titan jewelry line, drawing inspiration from Pharrell’s Virginia Beach origins and introducing a novel diamond setting technique. This expansion includes a Tahitian pearl collection that utilizes pearls cultivated for over 18 months in French Polynesia, reflecting his coastal upbringing with trident-like designs and Tahitian pearls known for their deep blue to gray hues. The pearl collection features pieces like pendants, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and rings, all crafted in 18k gold with pavé diamonds and rose gold accents. Additionally, the line introduces a new diamond series that employs an innovative Floeting® setting method, allowing diamonds to appear as if floating without visible prongs or bezels. This technique enhances the diamonds’ clarity, with the collection’s design featuring spear motifs and diamond-encrusted trident shapes on necklace chains and new earrings, continuing the theme of refined yet bold luxury.

Kendrick Lamar and Willy Chavarria Are Collaborating on Super Bowl Halftime Collection

Willy Chavarria just rocked Paris Fashion Week and he’s not slowing down. He’s teamed up with Kendrick Lamar for a killer ready-to-wear line, launching right before Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime gig. The two got together when Lamar rocked Chavarria’s looks on his Big Steppers Tour. This collab, which also ropes in the NFL and Lamar’s pgLang label, rolls out a cool lineup featuring a standout satin jacket with balloon sleeves, “KLamar” embroidery, and a nod to Lamar’s upcoming tour with SZA on the back. They’ve also got some breezy practice jerseys, mesh shorts, and Super Bowl LIX hoodies and tees with some of Lamar’s lyrics, designed by Felipe Merida. Mark your calendar for Jan. 29 when it drops online, because buying this gear also helps support those hit by the Los Angeles fires.

Stella McCartney Is Buying Back Minority Stake From LVMH

Stella McCartney is taking back control by buying the minority stake in her brand from LVMH, signaling a new independent chapter while maintaining ties with the group as their newly appointed global ambassador for sustainability. This move follows over five fruitful years of partnership, initiated in 2019 when LVMH was drawn to McCartney’s strong commitment to sustainability. Under this partnership, McCartney retained the majority control of her brand, a step up from her prior 50-50 deal with Kering. With LVMH, she has been at the forefront of several sustainability projects, including a notable collaboration with Veuve Clicquot that transformed grape stems from the Champagne harvest into luxury accessories showcased at her Spring 2024 show. This innovative material significantly cuts greenhouse gas emissions associated with leather and winemaking, showcasing McCartney’s ongoing influence in pushing the envelope on sustainable luxury fashion.
