This autumn, Louis Vuitton is stepping into beauty with La Beauté Louis Vuitton, and they’ve enlisted the ultimate industry powerhouse to lead the charge: Pat McGrath.
Few names carry as much weight in beauty as McGrath. The legendary makeup artist—who’s been shaping runway looks for decades and even holds the title of Dame—knows how to create products that go beyond pigment and formula. “Working backstage for over 20 years at Louis Vuitton fashion shows, I am thrilled to now play such a key role in the launch of La Beauté Louis Vuitton, which is the result of extraordinary craftsmanship, creativity, and innovation,” McGrath, who presides over her own eponymous makeup brand Pat McGrath Labs, shared.
This isn’t Louis Vuitton’s first brush (pun intended) with beauty. Back in the 1920s, they dabbled in powder compacts, brushes, and mirrors—more accessories than full-fledged cosmetics. But in 2022, they dipped a toe into the fragrance world with their signature perfume line. Now, with La Beauté, they’re going all in.
So, what’s in the lineup? Expect 55 lipsticks (yes, 55), 10 tinted lip balms, and 8 eyeshadow quads imprinted with Louis Vuitton’s ubiquitous monogram motif. McGrath has built her brand on formulas that deliver impact, so there’s no doubt this collection will bring that same intensity. And knowing Vuitton, the packaging alone will be collector’s-item worthy.
The move makes sense. Luxury fashion houses are claiming their stake in the beauty industry, and LVMH, Louis Vuitton’s parent company, has been leading the charge. Dior, Givenchy, Guerlain, and even Sephora all sit under the same empire. Celine kicked off 2024 with Le Rouge Celine, their 15-shade lipstick collection. Balmain jumped into the fragrance game with Estée Lauder. Prada launched a full cosmetics and skincare line last year. Even Paco Rabanne and Valentino have gotten in on the action. Beauty isn’t just an add-on anymore—it’s a power play.
“La Beauté Louis Vuitton is a natural business evolution, driven by our meticulous attention to quality, formula, and innovation,” said Pietro Beccari, Chairman and CEO of Louis Vuitton. “Through this new universe, we have the opportunity to further accompany clients in their everyday lives with purpose and pleasure, while continuing to celebrate our creativity and heritage.”
Translation? Louis Vuitton isn’t here to test the waters—they’re here to own them. And with Pat McGrath at the helm, La Beauté is already shaping up to be the beauty event of the year. Our advice? Start saving now.
