Holy Mackerel! The Fish Motif Continues to Make Waves This Season

Last summer undoubtedly belonged to the sardine, which turned up everywhere whether it was stitched onto dresses, printed across trousers, dangling from handbags, and even tucked under arms as the season’s most coveted accessory. Dubbed “Sardine Girl Summer,” the trend somehow transformed one of the Mediterranean’s humblest pantry staples into high fashion, with brands like Bottega Veneta proving that a little seafood could be surprisingly sophisticated.

The obsession may have cooled this year, but it certainly hasn’t swum away. Instead of head-to-toe piscine dressing, designers have cast a narrower net, with fish quietly making their return as the season’s most charming motif. From reel cute jewelry and tongue-in-cheek bags to shoes that would make even Poseidon do a double take, fashion is once again fishing in familiar waters. Consider this your catch of the day.
