On May 15, Drake flooded streaming platforms with not one, not two, but three separate projects released within hours of each other: the long-awaited Iceman, surprise dance-heavy tape Maid of Honour, and Habibti, a slower, moodier R&B project steeped in late-night longing. Alongside the music itself, listeners quickly noticed something else tying the releases together: recurring references to the Arab world throughout all three projects.
The most obvious example arrives through Habibti itself, named after the Arabic word meaning “my love.” The project’s cover art only pushed the intrigue further, featuring nothing more than a close-up of heavily lined eyes. At first many initially assumed it was Euphoria’s Alexa Demie, however, within hours, fans uncovered that the face behind the artwork belonged to Stunna Sandy, a rising Egyptian-American rapper from Brooklyn who also appears on Drake’s Outside Tweaking from Maid of Honour.
So, who exactly is she? Below, five things you need to know about the 23-year-old musical artist suddenly finding herself at the center of one of the internet’s most talked-about album drops.
Before the viral snippets, On The Radar appearances, and growing online fanbase, Stunna Sandy was simply Sandy Soliman, a Brooklyn-born rapper slowly building buzz online before officially dropping music in 2024. The “Stunna” part actually came from a social media handle she made years ago and eventually decided to keep once music started taking off.
Born to Egyptian immigrant parents and raised in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, she has spoken openly about growing up in a traditional Egyptian household while navigating New York street culture at the same time. In interviews, she’s credited her Arab background for influencing everything from her confidence to her fashion choices and even parts of her sound.
Stunna Sandy was reportedly an AP student growing up. In one interview with The Urban Influencer, she described herself as a tomboy who found more community outside the classroom than inside it, skipping things like picture days and school trips while spending most of her time with friends around Brooklyn.
Her breakout single Make It Look Sexy may sound polished, but according to Sandy herself, it was only the third song she had ever recorded. The track quickly gained traction online and helped introduce her to a wider audience almost immediately after she started taking music seriously in late 2023. Since then, she’s released tracks including Fed Up, BBC, and Freakquent, steadily becoming one of the internet’s favorite new NYC rap voices.
Before rapping, Stunna Sandy actually wanted to become a DJ. In interviews, she said experimenting with music around 18 or 19 eventually pushed her toward recording instead. What began as casual studio sessions with friends quickly turned into something much bigger once snippets started circulating online and catching attention across New York’s underground scene.
