Bucket List Vacations to Book in 2018

Swim with piranhas or climb inside a volcano this year

Thanks to the internet, no destination is out of bounds. Whether it’s trying to find somewhere with a lesser-known geo-tag on Instagram, or scouring Google maps for a desolate island – we’re all basically on the hunt for an envy-inducing trip that no-one else has taken.

From swimming with piranhas to trekking with gorillas, the next level of travel is beyond ‘barefoot luxury’ and do-it-for-the-gram city breaks. It’s about amping up your heart rate a few notches.

Discover North Korea

Visit the most secretive country in the world. Simply put – the Internet (as well as most of the 21st century) remains unknown to its habitants. Therefore we can safely say it’s more than likely that Instagram hasn’t given you any insights yet – so it’s as curious as it is compelling. This closed-to-the-majority country has an intoxicating voyeuristic appeal – so it has to be the ultimate 2018 once-in-a-lifetime holiday that borders on madness.

Gorilla Trekking in Rwanda

Trekking with mountain gorillas in the dense hilltops of the Volcanoes national park in Rwanda is one of those once-in-a-lifetime bucket list experiences that has nothing to do with its ‘Gram-ability. Wake up early and head off in search of these spectacular primates off the beaten path in one of Rwandas most magical national parks and scramble through the trees to work up an appetite for lunch in the forest.

Swimming in the Peruvian Amazon

Calling in all bragging rights for this holiday of a lifetime – yes, it might as well be called that – as you will be literally swimming with the fishes. Well, in the Peruvian Amazon the swimming happens to be with Piranhas. The Amazon rainforest, also known as the ‘Lungs of our Planet’ might as well give you an extra breath of air as you dip your toes into the murky waters of the Peruvian Amazon. Crazy as it sounds, the experience doesn’t stop there as the Amazon is also home to the most incredible pink dolphins, so while you practice your swimming skills – keep an eye peeled for these playful mammals.

Volcano exploring in Iceland

A volcano is where everything comes into perspective. The humongous magma chamber of the once ferocious Þríhnúkagigur volcano is now open to the public – and you won’t want to miss out on the opportunity to climb into this truly unique natural phenomenon. Descending 120m into the now-dormant volcano gives a rare glimpse of the array of colours and magnitude of the center of a volcano. This daring activity is not available anywhere else on the planet and a true experience for those daring to see one of the earth’s greatest geographical wonders.

Adreline junkies in Queenstown, New Zealand

Queenstown isn’t known as the ‘adrenaline capital of the world’ for no reason. You can literally do some of the most death-defying activities surrounded by some of the world’s most incredible natural landscapes. How about zip wiring through treetops above the pristine lakes below, do a near G-force free-fall or bungee jump from an impressive 134m high platform.
