Palestinian Artists Take Over Dubai

GPP’s latest exhibition is one not to miss.

Palestinian Artists Take Over Dubai

Cinema Akil is putting its focus on independent Palestinian film. While they warmly
welcomed several directors hailing from the Levant country, it’s now photographers
that are being put under the spotlight this weekend.

As part of Reel Palestine Film Festival, Gulf Photo Plus is playing host to its annual
Slidefest event. Set to be taking place at the Alserkal Avenue, five Palestinian
photographers, namely Rehaf Batniji, Maen Hammad, Samar Hazboun, Samar Abu
Elouf and Sanad Abu Latifa, will see their work be presented.

Visitors and guests will be able to visually experience, via photos gathered from the
West Bank and Gaza, the different takes and perspectives of life and sometimes even
resistance in the holy land.

“It’s been exciting to see Slidefest grow to become a staple event in Dubai’s art
calendar over the years. So far, Slidefest has travelled all over the Gulf, across Saudi
Arabia in both Riyadh and Jeddah, Bahrain, and has even taken place in Cairo,” says
Mohamed Somji, director of Gulf Photo Plus.”

“This year, we’re proud to present the work of five Palestinian artists who are all doing
impactful work on the ground. We’re thrilled to partner with Reel Palestine for their
eighth edition to highlight these important stories. At GPP, we believe in supporting
Menasa photographers who are continuing to push the boundaries of contemporary
image-making in the region.”

With an opportunity to engage with the artists directly through a scheduled live stream
from their hometowns, Palestine is placed at the front, left and center of this event and
we’re loving it.
