Hassan Hajjaj and Momo Mazouz Open Pop-Up Bar

The contemporary artist and acclaimed restaurateur join forces

Critically acclaimed Moroccan contemporary artist Hassan Hajjaj has joined forces with London-based Algerian restaurateur Mourad Mazouz (the man behind Michelin-starred restaurant Sketch and Momo, Le Derrière in Paris, Andy Wahloo and 404) on a “North African dive bar” nestled deep in the basement of Momo’s in London.

The new space—which has been art directed by Hajjaj—is a shadow of its former self. With a sweeping dancefloor, stage area and several nooks lit by Dan Flavin-esque neon lights, the reimagined space is a Y2K version of traditional Moroccan aesthetics.

There are few restaurateurs as loved as Mourad Mazouz (also known as ‘Momo’ to friends). Renowned for his impeccable eye for design, hospitality and unbeatable contemporary art collection – it’s only natural that the space, which is now called Moonlight Social Club, would soon draw in the fashion and art crowd.

Just last week, the club saw fashion designer and LVMH-prize winner Grace Wales Bonner host a low-key night with Jamie XX, LVMH prize finalist Molly Goddard and cult hairstylist Alex Brownsell all in attendance.

With programming for Moonlight Social Club run by leading event production company Mom & Dad—who are behind some of London’s most notable parties for everyone from i-D to Jeremy Scott and the Scotch of St. James—the new space is no doubt going to become the place to visit over the duration of the three-month pop-up. Not to mention a portion of the money raised will go to UK-based NGO Help Refugees and Clowns Without Borders. It’s a win-win.

Moonlight Social Club runs from 11 April – 9 July, Momo, 25 Heddon Street, London
