Alaïa to Host First Show Since the Tunisian Designer’s Death

The Maison is back

Azzedine Alaia might be gone, but his legacy continues. The designer’s eponymous fashion house will host its first show since the Tunisian designer’s death, marking Pieter Mulier’s debut as the house’s creative director

The show is set to be held on July 4, just before Paris Couture Week kicks off. This will be the first runway since Alaïa passed away in 2017. The show will also see both a ready-to-wear and couture collection presented simultaneously, yet another first for the Maison.

These wouldn’t be the first collections released by the house since Alaïa’s passing, however. With the studio team having stayed intact since 2017, they’ve released nine collections since. Mulier’s debut will certainly mark a new era though. The designer who took the reins in February was previously the Global Creative Director at Calvin Klein until 2018 alongside Raf Simons.

Always ahead of his time and open to all arts and cultures, Azzedine Alaïa’s powerful vision has served as an inspiration, as he always sought to give the necessary time to innovative and enduring creation,” Mulier said in a statement upon his appointment at Alaïa.

“It is with this tremendous sense of admiration and responsibility that I will seek to carry forward his legacy of celebrating femininity and placing women at the heart of creation,” he continued.
