Oprah and Nadine Labaki are now BFFs

It’s official.

It’s been an exciting year for Nadine Labaki. The Lebanese filmmaker has come a long way from the days when she was filming regional music videos. Since the 2018 release of her most recent film Capharnaüm, Labaki has been at the receiving end of boundless international acclaim, scoring a few prestigious awards along the way as well as a casual Oscar nomination.

And things got even more exciting when the filmmaker got a co-sign from none other than Oprah Winfrey last month. The media mogul-turned-philanthropist praised Labaki’s film on twitter last month, writing: “[the film] makes you think of all the children for whom this story is a daily reality. Bravo team Capernaum”.

And this week, Winfrey invited Labaki and her husband, producer and musician Khaled Mouzanar for lunch. Oprah posted a photo on her Instagram of the three of them stood outside her house. “Look who just came for lunch,” she wrote, “Director extraordinaire @nadinelabaki and her producer husband Khaled” before going on to further affirm her stamp of approval “I love their move Capernaum so much. If you get the chance, See it!”

And in case you’re wondering what their conversation was like, you’ll be happy to hear that Labaki gave her Instagram followers a little clue. “My queen Oprah. This moment spent in your home talking about life and the ways to change the world will always be one of those moments Khaled and I will remember forever,” she wrote before extending an invitation for breakfast in Lebanon with “the beautiful cedar mountains as a background”.
