It’s official, Clubhouse is everyone’s new favourite social media platform. Since going international in December, its imprint on the Middle East is especially remarkable.
The audio-only app—which has already been downloaded by more than 5.5 million users all over the globe—became particularly popular in Saudi Arabia, with everyone hosting live conversations on a daily basis.
Whilst exact figures on Saudi Clubhouse users is unavailable, this wouldn’t be the first time a social media platform finds a major fanbase in the Kingdom. Last year, Tiktok ranked as the third most downloaded application in the Kingdom, despite controversy surrounding it at the time. Saudi content creators saw their fanbases on the app surge by the millions over the course of 2020, ranking them eighth in the world in terms of user volume.
It wouldn’t be far-fetched to say that a similar growth is currently taking place on Clubhouse. Anyone on the app can attest to that Saudi presence is hard to ignore. From rooms delving deep into Saudi-specific topics to barefaced pastime chats titled ‘summarize a book or read an excerpt in three minutes, Saudi users are increasingly active on the application.
