There were grunge make-up looks, bucket hats, and low waists that defined the 90s. But nothing marked the era like its sitcoms. And one of our 90s favourites is getting a reboot.
The iconic Fresh Prince of Bel Air that marked the rise of Will Smith’s stardom is getting a 2021 makeover. The new show will get its own spin too. Entitled Bel Air, the new series, which was inspired by a viral YouTube trailer by a super fan of the OG sitcom Morgan Cooper, will take a dramatic turn.
The show will be set in modern-day America and will follow Will’s journey from Philadelphia to Bel Air after getting in trouble with police. The show will follow “Will’s complicated journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of Bel-Air.
With a reimagined vision, Bel-Air dive deeper into the inherent conflicts, emotions and biases that were impossible to fully explore in a 30-minute sitcom format, while still delivering swagger and nods to the original show,” reads a statement.
The show will be written and directed by Cooper alongside Will Smith as co-executive producer. The newly crowned ‘Fresh Prince’ will be played by Hollywood newcomer Jabari Banks, who currently lives in West Philadelphia, the birthplace of the show’s star.
