Earlier this week, on Nov. 26, occupying Israeli forces and Lebanese officials finally managed to agree on a ceasefire, putting an end to over two months of relentless violence, bombing, and mass destruction. The pact, brokered through intense negotiations, is intended to bring a temporary halt to the carpet bombing of the Cedar State, which has left thousands killed and injured, and even more civilians displaced from their homes.
As the Mediterranean country mourns the victims brutally targeted, a bittersweet sense of relief has begun to surface. Yet, it’s overshadowed by a persistent unease that this ceasefire may be nothing more than a brief intermission, not a true resolution to the turmoil. After all, how much can truly change when the root cause of the conflict remains unaddressed, left to simmer unchecked?
And while Lebanon begins to navigate the aftermath of these past few weeks of devastation, its resilience continues to be expressed through its rich cultural heritage, especially music. Sadly too familiar with the concept of pain and suffering, for decades, Lebanese artists have used their voices, and accompanying instruments, to honor their homeland and its people, offering a soundtrack that simultaneously captures the sorrow and strength of a nation that has been in turmoil for far too long.
For that reason, we’ve put together a playlist of songs, both old and new, that celebrate the country’s steadfastness and that reflect a spirit that never gives up, no matter how tough things get.
