Gigi Hadid is Donating to Ukraine and Palestine, Here’s How You Can Too

Here’s everything you can do to help too

Other than posing for some of the world’s most lavish brands, there’s one thing that the Hadid sisters know how to do well, and that’s raising awareness on social issues. This week, Gigi is urging her global audience to do the right thing when it comes to Ukraine and Palestine.

A few weeks ago, the cadet sister of the part-Palestinian household, Bella, took it to her Instagram account to address the associated issues of veiling in fashion as well as the growing Islamophobia in Western countries. The eldest of the family, Gigi has taken up the torch, pledging to donate her fashion month earnings over to charities helping both Ukraine and her native Palestine navigate through their own respective struggles.

“Having a set fashion month schedule has meant that my colleagues and I often present new fashion collections during heartbreaking and traumatic times in history,” said the 26-year-old in an Instagram caption of one of the dedicated posts. “We don’t have control over most of our work schedules, but we would like to walk ‘for’ something. Following in the footsteps of my friend (and fellow model) @micarganaraz, I am pledging to donate my earnings from the fall 2022 shows to aid those suffering from the war in Ukraine, as well as continuing to support those experiencing the same in Palestine.” she continued.

Last week, Buenos Aires-born model Mica Arganaraz made her act of solidarity public by initiating the movement of forwarding her earnings this month to devoted charities and specialized organizations in Ukraine.

“The war in Ukraine has triggered the pain of a past trauma I have carried in me since 1993, when the same thing happened in my home country,” wrote the wrote the model in her story. “I thought for a moment about canceling the show . . . then I realized canceling this show would mean giving in, surrendering to the evil that has already hurt me so much for almost 30 years.”

After solidifying their names as supermodels, Gigi and Bella have both been making sure that not a voice remains muted around the world. And these latest efforts add another notch to their already extensive list of humanitarian actions and campaigns.

And while celebrities worldwide are turning their wise empathetic words into concrete direct actions, it’s important to remember so can all of us. For that reason, we’ve gathered a list of organizations for you to actively play a part in supporting these countries through their distressing times and relief.

Financial donations are probably one of the most effective ways for someone to assist a nation and its citizens. Although the internet is now flooded with fundraisers of all kinds, not all are reliable and transparent. So, be for Palestine or Ukraine, here’s a list of trustworthy organizations that have proved, and still proving, to be efficient and reliable on the ground from Palestine to Ukraine:

Interestingly enough, a wave of bookings on Airbnb have been made all throughout Ukraine. People from all around the world have been booking rooms with no intention of stepping foot in the properties. This is to help people survive and cope with the current economic strain the invasion has led the young republic into — a unique way to offer help from the digital world into the tangible one.
