From Tiktok runways to Zoom presentations, the fashion industry has gone digital. The latest to join the virtual party is Italian fashion house Gucci, which will be hosting its own virtual fashion film festival, a first in the industry.
Entitled GucciFest, the event will see the premiere of “Ouverture of Something That Never Ended”, a seven-parts mini-series featuring the house’s creative director Alessandro Michele’s new collection. This isn’t Gucci’s first digital presentation. The brand showcased its Resort 2021 collection last July in a 12-hour-long live stream complete with a behind-the-scenes run-through of the collection.
Co-directed by Michele himself and American film director Gus Van Sant, the film series was shot in Rome following actress, artist and performer Silvia Calderoni in “a surreal daily routine in the city”. The episodes will also feature appearances of a star-studded lineup including Billie Eilish, Lu Han, Harry Styles, Florence Welch, to name a few.
The programme will also include short fashion films created by 15 independent young designers with the likes of Stefan Cooke, Mowalola, Gui Rosa, Collina Strada and Ahluwalia on the list.
The festival will run from November 16-22, on YouTube, Weibo, and guccifest.com
