At just 20-years-old, Somali-American model Halima Aden, who was born in a Kenyan refugee camp, was simultaneously the first hijabi model to have made it on international fashion week runways, and even on the cover of the British Vogue last May. Famed for refusing to remove her hijab at the 2016 Miss Minnesota USA beauty show, Aden has been passionately committed to changing the face and nature of the industry, proving that being a model can also be a vehicle for change.
Next month, Aden will drop her first ever-capsule collection (that she co-signed with Turkish modest e-commerce giant Modanisa), which will put her own spin on headscarves.
Consisting of a 27 piece collection, the designs are set to launch at Istanbul Modest Fashion Week (a highly anticipated event sponsored by Modanisa, giving a stage to the once disregarded but now mainstream multi-billion-dollar modest market) on April 20 and 21.
