It’s never been more imperative to stay at home. Those who have the luxury of working from home, must. Those who unfortunately still have to go to work should practice social distancing.
If you’re one of the privileged, staying at home just got a lot easier. Chicago-based publishing house Haymarket Books has just made 10 e-books available at no cost.
“At Haymarket Books, our mission is to publish books for changing the world,” the publishing house said in a statement. “Now more than ever, the need to do just that is at the forefront of our minds. We all deserve to live in a world where we are each cared for, nourished, and sheltered.”
The selection of books is specifically curated to encourage alternative ways of thinking. The offerings include Michael Lowy’s Ecosocialism: A Radical Alternative to Capitalist Catastrophe, a collection of essays that detail the ways in which capitalism is harmful to the planet and outlines a vision with a radical alternative.
If you’re interested in reading about the concept of corporate benevolence, Rob Larson’s book, Bit Tyrants, is also available for download.
And if socialism is a concept you’ve considered, Danny Katch’s Socialism…Seriously is among Haymarket Books’s selection.
