Every summer, the creative industry slows down for about four weeks, giving everyone a chance to catch their breath before the rush of September. We’re talking, of course, about August, the unofficial ‘do not disturb’ season in the world of culture. This pause, which touches nearly every corner of the arts, is most noticed within the realm of music, with most artists — from rappers to pop singers and rock stars — easing their output, except perhaps for DJs who remain booked and busy performing everywhere from beach clubs to festivals. And as the region also experiences this lull, with fewer new releases than usual, we decided to broaden our horizons and curate a playlist of tracks from elsewhere and from a different era.
Lately, we found ourselves bopping to a flurry of tracks from the South American continent, addicted to the gentle riffs Bossa nova, Flamenco and Samba, amongst many other genres, can offer.
