Hermès Brings Iconic Creations to Doha in Exclusive New Exhibition

from oct. 17 to Nov. 9

French luxury label Hermès has just announced that its next exhibition will take place in Qatar, offering an exclusive glimpse into their history of craftsmanship to local fans of the brand. Slated to run from Oct. 17 to Nov. 9, the National Museum of Qatar (NMQ) in Doha will play host to “In Motion,” the last chapter of their Hermès Heritage series: a “cycle of touring exhibitions (that) explores the history of the house founded in 1837 by Thierry Hermès with its iconic themes, colors and objects.”

The event marks the last installment of a much larger lineup of events exploring the label’s storied past and centuries-old heritage. After “Once Upon a Bag” in 2022 and “Harnessing the Roots” in 2023, both of which were held at NMQ, its latest, and final, showcase will focus on the “objects that carry within them the desire to take off, to go elsewhere and roam.”

“Hermès came into being at a historic time when modern life was gathering pace, where men and women wanted nothing more than to move with ease in a bustling and increasingly mobile world,” a recently shared press release explained. “The exhibition is testament to this, presenting objects from the Émile Hermès collection, the archives, the Hermès Conservatoire of Creations and contemporary pieces,” it added.

Some of the stand-out pieces expected to be showcased include The Bolide picnic bag, which was added to “illustrate how Hermès objects also travel through the ages”; the pair of Postilion’s riding boots “whose size and robustness are dreamily reminiscent of the marvellous seven-league boots”; and the Pippa writing desk,  which shows how ingenious some of Hermès’ mechanisms can be.

“In Motion” unfolds in five stages and is directed by Bruno Gaudichon, curator at La Piscine Museum of Art and Industry in Roubaix, with surrounding decor and design commissioned from French scenographer Laurence Fontaine.
